About Us

Opportunities in Hong Kong is a student-led nonprofit organization established in May 2023. We believe that lack of access to education is a reason for inter-generational poverty in Hong Kong. As students coming from a more privileged background, we would like to help promote access to educational opportunities with our advocacy projects, such as free tutoring and school newsletters, in order to narrow the gap between students from more privileged schools and those from less privileged schools.

Our SDGs

OIHK believes that lack of education access is a main reason for inter-generational poverty in Hong Kong. Financial constraints or a lack of access to these resources prevent many grassroots children from accessing educational opportunities. In our city, many extracurricular activities are only available to students from more privileged schools. We therefore strive to mitigate intergenerational poverty by providing numerous opportunities for children to develop their interests and skills. Our work will provide equal opportunities and resources to both privileged and less privileged schools, international and local schools, and higher banding schools and lower banding schools.

OIHK shares different student opportunities such as essay competitions, research opportunities and internship programmes to our audience. We believe that participation in extracurricular activities is essential for the professional and personal development of students, which is also beneficial to their career planning. Our work will help students from all backgrounds to access quality education and develop their skills, knowledge and experience.

OIHK officers are driven by the same goal - to narrow the gap between students from more privileged and less privileged schools. By providing information on scholarships, internships, and other opportunities, we are helping to level the playing field for students who may not have access to these resources otherwise. Also, through providing free tutoring services to underprivileged children, we want to address the educational inequalities that exist in our society. Many children from low-income families may not have access to the same educational resources as their more affluent peers, which can put them at a disadvantage. By providing free tutoring services, we would like to give these children the opportunity to succeed.

Our value aligns with the No.17 SDG - Partnerships for the Goals. We collaborate with other student organizations, schools and non-governmental organizations to make free educational opportunities accessible to every student in our city. Our goal is to create a platform for students in Hong Kong to raise awareness of issues that they are passionate about by connecting student organisations with NGOs
